A Trinity trek

The new Trinity River Audubon Center is located off Loop 12 in south Dallas and features spectacular architecture (designed to achieve LEED Gold, a very high "green" building rating) and about 2 miles total of hiking trails that take you through the Trinity forest down to a river overlook, over boardwalks through wetlands habitat, and through an example of Texas blackland prairie (currently in restoration, but looking pretty good). Mom got a tour of the facility when it was under construction and we went back yesterday to check it out now that it is open to the public. I enjoyed the full tour from the comfort of the Tedpack.

One of the neatest things about the property is that it was once home to a huge illegal dumpsite that has been reclaimed for environmental and educational benefit. Huge kudos are due to the City of Dallas (and their partners at Audubon) for making this happen - it's a wonderful resource for our community. Go check it out, if you're local! Too many pics to post separately, so a video slideshow is below.
